"KI erklärt"("AI explained") – Control and Regulation of AI: An introduction

The event series "KI erklärt" aims to make the „myth“ of artificial intelligence more accessible to a broader audience.
Together with leading experts, we explain fundamental concepts and functionalities of artificial intelligence and discuss ethical, economical and political questions, such as:   

• What are the chances and risks of generative AI models and contents generated by them?
• Can we still trust content on the internet?
• Which impact does the new european AI act have on our everyday (business) lives?
• What is behind the terms Deep Learning, Deep Fakes etc.?
• How can an AI system discriminate?

 As a start of the series of events under the title „KI erklärt“ on November 12, 2024, the focus will be on regulation of AI: In two talks, AI experts Olivia J. Erdélyi and Was Rahman will explain the fundamental concepts behind AI-technology and shed light on what control and regulation of AI (can) look like. Therefore they address legal frameworks as the european AI act, discuss the ethical challenges of AI as well as talk about the implementation of regulations in practice.
Afterwards, there will be the opportunity for questions and discussion.

The event well be held in German and is free of charge.

The event series is organized by Deutsches Museum Bonn in cooperation with the Center for Science and Thought of the University Bonn.
 

Olivia J. Erdélyi: Mercator Visiting Professor, Center for Science & Thought (CST), University of Bonn; Senior Lecturer, University of Canterbury, New Zealand; In addition to her research activities at the interface of computer science, economics, law and political science, Olivia Erdélyi advises governments and organizations as an expert on AI policy-making and regulation.

Was Rahman: Visiting researcher, CST Bonn; CEO, AI Prescience, UK; AI Ethics Researcher, Centre for Business in Society, Coventry University, UK. In addition to his research on AI ethics and his consulting work, Was Rahman lectures and publishes on the impact of AI on society to a non-technical audience. In a career spanning over 30 years, he has worked for global technology companies, start-ups and governments.
